Pension

What is a Pension?

The public pension system allows you or your family to receive your pension if, as you age, you become disabled through an illness or injury, or if you pass away.
In order to receive your pension, you must make sure to make all your insurance premium payments.
In this system, everyone supports each other through paying their insurance premiums.

National Pension System

Everyone aged 20 – 59 is part of the national pension system.
Students and foreign residents are also part of the system.
For those who have difficulties making insurance premium payments, there is a pension plan available that is exempt from insurance premiums.

Employee’s Pension Plan

Employees enroll in the plan by carrying out the necessary procedures with their employer.
However, depending on the size of the company and the nature of their work, some employees are unable to enter into this plan.
The insurance premium payments are made by your employer from your salary.

Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments

Non-Japanese residents who have made insurance premium payments for the national pension system or the employee’s pension plan for over 6 months and have left Japan without receiving their pension can request lump-sum withdrawal payments.

The withdrawal amount is calculated based on certain criteria and not the entire amount of premium payments made can be withdrawn.
To apply for lump-sum withdrawal payments, send your application form to Japan Pension Service within two years of leaving Japan, or after you leave Saitama City (the date as stated on your moving-out certificate).
The application form is available at pension offices or download from the Japan Pension Service website.
