Description: |
This group of mounded tombs, or “kofun”, is located near the Kamogawa River in the western part of the city. While 5 tombs within Omiya Ward are designated together as a group, an excavation in the neighborhood brought evidence of even more “kofun” lying between 4-chome Mihashi, Omiya Ward, and 4-chome Ennami, Chuo Ward. Thanks to discoveries of “haniwa” earthen statues shaped like cylinders, humans, and horses, we can infer that these mounded tombs were constructed during the 6th and 7th centuries. |
