Procedures

Status of residence

Those who have entered Japan from Ukraine with a “Temporary Visitor” status of residence and those planning to enter Japan are able to apply for a 1-year “Designated Activities” status through The Immigration Services Agency of Japan. The “Designated Activities” status of residence allows the holder to seek employment.

3. International Exchange Fund  The Japan Foundation
The online resource for Japanese language study “Irodori: Japanese for Life in Japan” is now available in Ukrainian.

 2. The Nippon Foundation *(this resource is only available to displaced Ukrainian citizens with acquaintances who live in Japan)　※This support program is no longer available  
The Nippon Foundation is offering financial support to displaced Ukrainian citizens in the form of transport, household, and daily living expenses.
(1)Transport to Japan (Plane ticket fees, etc.)

・Those who have already arrived in Japan or purchased an airplane ticket are eligible to receive reimbursement on their out-of-pocket travel expenses (limited to ￥300,000 per person).
・Those who have yet to purchase an airplane ticket are eligible to receive an electronic airplane ticket and funds for domestic transport in Japan.

(2)Living Expenses
Benefit amount: ￥1,000,000 per year per person (limited to ￥3,000,000 per family per year). *This benefit will be offered for three years. Reapplication is required to receive the benefit in the 2^nd and 3^rd year.

(3)Household Expenses (Furniture, Electronics, etc.)
Benefit amount: ￥500,000 per home (flat rate)
*This benefit is intended for new tenants of public housing. Please use these funds for the purchase of furniture, electronics, and daily necessities. See here for application details. 

 3. The Saitama Prefecture Social Welfare Council　 ※This support program is no longer available  
The Saitama Prefecture Social Welfare Council offers an Emergency Livelihood Assistance Payment to displaced Ukrainian citizens in Saitama Prefecture.
Benefit amount: ￥50,000 per person (one-time only)

Donations

Financial Aid and the Humanitarian Crisis in Ukraine

Financial relief donation boxes can be found in the International Exchange Center of the Saitama Tourism and International Relations Bureau, as well as every ward office. Donations will be sent to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
There, they will be used to support relief efforts organized by institutions such as the International Red Cross Society. Those efforts include humanitarian crisis management in Ukraine and those countries neighboring it that have opened their borders to evacuees.  

Support from businesses, organizations, etc.
