         Description:  | 
      
         This Japanese ternstroemia (Ternstroemia gymnathera) measured 15 meters tall at the time of designation, with a trunk circumference of 1.84 meters, a base circumference of 5.7 meters, and a canopy spreading 9.2 meters East-West and 8.05 meters North-South. Japanese ternstroemia have thick, oblong leaves with a distinct glossiness. In summer, the tree bears tiny, white, five-petaled flowers in its upper canopy. The downwards-facing flowers develop into round fruits about 1 cm in diameter that ripen to red in the autumn.  |
