Description: |
This Castanopsis tree is located in the southeast corner of Dainichido Hall’s cemetery, where it juts out over the western margin of the Minuma Irrigation Canal. At the time of designation, the tree stood 16 meters tall, with a trunk circumference of 3.7 meters and a base circumference of 8 meters. The canopy spread 14.75 meters East-West and 16 meters North-South. This particular tree is also known as the “Childbirth Castanopsis”. This name originates from legends that say that a statue of the bodhisattva Jizo (Kṣitigarbha) enshrined in the tree’s base is capable of granting blessings for a safe birth. |
