Fumonin Temple holds the family tomb of Oguri Tadamasa, a retainer to the shogun. The Oguri family cemetery contains 30 graves in total, including those of members from the main family and branch families. Tadamasa was a military commander during the Sengoku period (1467-1615). He was awarded 2,550 koku* of territory for his efforts at the start of the Edo period (1603-1867), including 550 koku of land in Onari village. The lands returned to the shogun’s possession after Tadamasa’s death in 1673 but were reappointed to the Oguri family after 1768. The Oguri family continued to rule the territory until the Meiji Restoration (1868-1889). *A koku is a unit of volume equivalent to about 180 liters. The unit indicated the volume of rice that could be produced from the land in a feudal domain in a year. |
