Description:

  “Haniwa” are large, often hollow earthen sculptures that were placed on burial mounds in ancient Japan.

This collection of haniwa was excavated during a survey in 2001.

Horse-shaped haniwa No. 1: 83.5 cm tall, 83.2 cm wide.

Horse-shaped haniwa No. 2 (muzzle): 6 cm in diameter.

Human-shaped haniwa No. 1: 76.2 cm tall.

Human-shaped haniwa No. 2: Partial remains stand 58.6 cm tall.

Human-shaped haniwa No. 3: Current height is 37.6 cm.

Human-shaped haniwa No. 4 (fragment of a face): 9.6 cm long.

Cylindrical haniwa No. 1: 41.3 cm tall, mouth of cylinder 20.3 cm in diameter, base of cylinder 12.8 cm in diameter,  circular hole 7.45 cm in diameter at widest point.

Cylindrical haniwa No. 2: 35.4 cm tall, mouth of cylinder 22.3 in diameter, base of cylinder 12.25 cm in diameter, circular hole 8.3 cm in diameter at widest point.

Cylindrical haniwa No. 3: 36.4 cm tall, mouth of cylinder 19.6 cm in diameter, base of cylinder 12.7 cm in diameter, circular hole 7.4 cm in diameter at widest point.

Cylindrical haniwa No. 4: 34.9 cm tall, mouth of cylinder 18.3 cm in diameter, base of cylinder 12.6 cm in diameter, circular hole 6.1 cm in diameter at widest point.

Cylindrical haniwa No. 5: approx. 34.5 cm tall, mouth of cylinder approx. 20.4 cm in diameter, base of cylinder 10.26 cm in diameter, circular hole 6.4 cm in diameter at widest point.

Cylindrical haniwa No. 6: 34.8 cm tall, mouth of cylinder 19.2 cm in diameter, base of cylinder 11.3 cm in diameter, circular hole 7.3 cm in diameter at widest point.

Cylindrical haniwa No. 7: 33.4 cm tall, mouth of cylinder 19.5 cm in diameter, base of cylinder 12.0 cm in diameter, circular hole 6.5 cm in diameter at widest point.
