         Description: |

These documents were passed down within the Kitazawa family. This lineage served as “torimi” (officers of falconry) at the Edo-period Kishu Takaba Honden estate in Omiya-juku, a post station along the Nakasendo Highway. Kitazawa Rakuten, known by many as the founding father of modern manga, is descended from this family. With texts that give information on Omiya-juku’s functions as a post-station and hawking ground, this precious collection of documents tells a story of the town during the early-modern era. |
