The religious juridical person of Hokkeji Temple

Description:

A work of the Buddhist sculptor Minbu from the Kamakura period (1185-1333).

The statue is made of hinoki cypress in the “yosegi-zukuri” (joined-block construction) style and has a total height of 93.8 cm. The statue bears an ink inscription of Hokkeji Temple’s chief priest and the name of the sculptor. Minbu also constructed a seated statue of the buddha Yakushi (Bhaiṣajyaguru) in 1471 that is currently held by Yakuoin Temple in Tajima, Sakura Ward, Saitama City.
