Description: |
Yokoyama Taiken (1868-1958) was a master of Japanese style painting, born in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture. “Autumn Colors in Musashi Province” is a work dedicated to Hikawa-jinja Shrine in 1933 to commemorate the construction of the shrine building. Measuring 62.8 centimeters tall and 81.5 centimeters wide, the work depicts a distant snow-capped Mount Fuji, rolling grass-covered hills, and pine and maple trees, splendidly capturing the atmosphere of Musashi Province in deepening autumn. On the lower right is the inscription "taikan kinsha," a humble signature for works dedicated to shrines and the imperial family. |
