Description: |
Juno Castle was built in 1560 as an auxiliary branch of Iwatsuki Castle. Built on a hill in the middle of a plain, the stronghold faced Minuma and was protected by a natural barrier on its east, south, and west sides. It is believed that the fort was the residence of Ushioda Dewanokami Suketada, the fourth son of Ota Sukemasa. The fort fell to flaming arrows during the Siege of Odawara in 1590. Today, Ushioda’s tombstone can be found in what was once the castle’s inner court, standing on the remains of the fort’s watchtower. |
