Description: |
These shipwrights’ tools and fishing boat were used by three generations of shipwrights in Showa-machi (Modern-day Kasukabe) until 1975. The collection includes 373 shipbuilding tools, 754 boat nails, 78 other tools, one fishing boat, two boat-building plans, and one sink. The shipwrights who owned these items were equipped with tools for making all sorts of Japanese-style vessels, from the small fishing boats that traversed the Edo River to large pontoon bridges and shallow-water boats. These valuable resources give us insight into shipbuilding techniques from the Edo River. |
