Description:

“Kagura” is a broad category of folk dances with ties to the Shinto religion. 

This is a collection of costumes and implements used in kagura and theatrical performances by the Takanashi family, who were primarily active in Koshigaya City and are the legitimate heirs of the Kasai lineage of kagura. It consists of 427 costumes and implements used during the Meiji and Showa periods (1868-1989)  for kagura, masked kyogen, local theatre, and kabuki plays. The collection is representative of kagura artists in southeastern Saitama Prefecture.
