Description:

The Nakamoto Family primarily performed at Omiya Hikawa-jinja Shrine.

They used these costumes and implements in kagura and masked theater performances.

“Kagura” is a broad category of folk dances with ties to the Shinto religion. Kagura performances were often followed by community drama performances that included amateur kabuki, masked kyogen, and samurai dramas.

This collection brings together 257 items used during the Showa and Heisei periods (1926-2019), including materials for kagura (kagura masks, costumes, “torimono” props, instruments, curtains, etc.) and materials used in community theater performances (      masked theater masks, costumes, small props, etc.). The costumes are rich in detail and variety, and many are handmade.

These kagura materials have been preserved as a single collection. Together, they represent the complete setup that a kagura troupe would need to perform.
