Description: |
This is an ornamental lacquerware saddle decorated with seashell patterns. The sides of the pommel and the cantle are inlaid with creeping woodsorrel crests (maru ni katabami), while the center of the pommel is emblazoned with a single crane crest (maru ni tsuru). Both the cantle and pommel are scattered with tiny flecks of mother-of-pearl. The date “1632” is written on this piece in India ink. |
