This area is Iida. Adachi-jinja Shrine is an ancient shrine whose name appears in records dating back to the Heian Period (794CE-1185CE) It was the tutelary shrine of the Adachi clan, a powerful family based in the Ueda Village area centered around Uemizu during the Heian period. Due to the growing number of worshippers, the shrine became so famous that it was listed in the Engishiki Jinmyocho (record of Shinto Shrines) compiled by the imperial court. While the Adachi-jinja Shrine that is mentioned in the Engishiki Jinmyocho has been claimed to be in multiple places in Urawa City, Konosu City and Miyahara Town, according to collected records the Adachi-jinja Shrine has been located as being within the Kojima Kondayu family residence. Being the heads of the Uetayahon Village, they are said to be the descendents of the Adachi clan. This Adachi-jinja Shrine was formed when 12 shrines in the Uemizu area merged in 1907, and the former Hikawa Shrine was renamed Adachi-jinja Shrine. This historical walking course goes through Uemizu and Mihashi, areas centered on the local Kamo River, before going east on to Jigenji Temple and Mizuhata Kannon, and continuing to the south-east towards places like Fukuro-no-Kannon and the Rinkouji Temple. |
