Description: |
Japanese ternstroemia (Ternstroemia gymnathera), commonly called “mokkoku” in Japanese, are tall, evergreen members of the family Pentaphylacaceae. They have long been enjoyed as “niwaki”, easy-sculpted trees that serve as the backbone of a Japanese garden. This mokkoku was originally planted to serve as a niwaki. At the time of designation, it had a height of 10.5 meters, a trunk circumference of 1.6 meters, and a base circumference of 2.7 meters. Its well-shaped form is full of personality. |
