This ginkgo tree (Ginkgo biloba) had a height of 28 meters, a trunk circumference of 4.5 meters, and a base circumference of 11 meters at the time of designation. The bulk of this majestic tree can be spotted from far away. The trunk features “chichi”, growths resembling aerial roots that extend downwards from the trunk towards the ground. “Chichi” growths are usually only found on old trees. This ginkgo is vigorous, practically dripping with fruit. Come autumn, the temple grounds look as if they’re covered in a yellow carpet. |
