No. of features:

One tree

Designated:

December 9, 1961

Location:

2-chome Owadacho, Minuma Ward

Owner:

Under private ownership

Description:

This Japanese white pine (Pinus parviflora) had a height of 5.7 meters, a trunk circumference of 1.4 meters, and a base circumference of 2.3 meters at the time of designation.

Although it’s believed that the western and eastern “Japanese White Pines of Owada” were planted at the same time, this specimen has thicker needles and a paler green color than its western counterpart. These qualities have earned it the nickname “shimofuri-goyomatsu”;  the “Frosted Japanese White Pine”.

This tree’s relatively straight main trunk and evenly distributed branches give it a well-balanced figure.
