From the Muromachi period (1336-1573). In 1804, the Edo-period tea kettle maker Nagoshi “Yagoro” Kenpuku left a note stating that this piece was made sometime between 1528 and 1532. The kettle’s opening is 11.8 cm in diameter, the body is 20.9 cm in diameter, and the kettle stands 17.7 cm tall. The mouth of the kettle is made in the “kuriguchi” style, where a short, curving neck swells out to meet the body of the pot in a clear delineation. 26 rows of hailstone-shaped decorations line the kettle from the shoulders to the base. |
